2021 Wellington Doctoral Scholarship in New Zealand

Application for the 2021/2022 Victoria University of Wellington Doctoral Scholarship is now being accepted.

It’s a good thing Victoria University offers Wellington Doctoral Scholarships to encourage postgraduate study. New Zealand and international students in any area are eligible to apply for these scholarships, which are based on academic performance. In order to encourage and promote doctorate studies at Victoria University of Wellington, several scholarship grants have been created.


Doctoral admissions and scholarship award rounds take place throughout the year, and the Wellington Scholarship is awarded to the top-ranked candidate in each of these rounds. In order to be eligible for a Wellington Doctoral Scholarship, an applicant must either:

In most cases, scholarship grants will be valid for a period of three years. Candidate’s maximum tenure shall be reduced by the Research Scholarships Committee if they have already been registered for a doctorate at Victoria for more than three months when they are offered a Scholarship grant offer.

Victoria Doctoral Scholarships are open to both New Zealand and international students.
They are open to New Zealand and international graduates planning to enroll full-time in a Doctorate (Ph.D.) at Victoria University, as well as those who have already begun their doctorate studies at Victoria University.

A copy of their academic record from other schools must be included with the application form, except for students who have completed all of their studies at Victoria University of Wellington.

Selection process

Final selection is carried out by the Victoria Research Scholarships Committee on those candidates who have been put forward by the applicable School and Faculty.

Offers of Wellington Doctoral Scholarship award will be extended around six weeks after each deadline in March, July and November of the year of application. As some candidates may reject an offer, further offers may be made. It is possible that some candidates will not be finally informed of the success or otherwise of their applications three months subsequent to application.
